Or not. Organization: New York University Keywords: heroes and demons With a new crop of Star Trek:Voyager episodes comes the return of the MSTing Voyager posts, and with the return of these posts comes a spoiler warning. If you don't get Voyager on Mondays, be warned that the contents of this article are spoiler-dense. Use with caution. This week's post concerns "Heroes and Demons". If the word "Beowulf" doesn't jog your memory, you probably haven't seen it. These are in approximately chronological order. As always, I make no guarantee that you will find my riffs funny... {Chakotay and Tuvok enter the holodeck} "Great, it's a crossover with Swamp Thing. ... Do not bring your techno- babble here." {Hrothgar starts wheezing} "Take it easy there, Santa." {after a few minutes' worth of the "great hall"} "_Outlaw of Gor_ was more historically accurate than this!" {Hrothgar puts Chakotay and Tuvok on night watch} "Oh, yeah. Leave the *strangers* on sentry duty alone in the hall. That'll show 'em." {Chakotay and Tuvok are threatened by "Grendel"} Tuvok: Captain, it would be advantageous to take a close look at this part of the program. "Come on, everyone knows you look at the *source* code, not the execut- able." {Much talking in Sickbay; Kes stands in the background} "I don't have a line. ... I still don't have a line. ... Don't look at me. I don't have a line." "D&D is more historically accurate than this!" {The Doc has trouble handling a sword} [crying voice] "I don't like RenFaires anymore!" Hrothgar: First, let me give you a tour of my home. "Here's my home. Love it or leave it. End of tour." Doc: Emergency beam-out! Janeway: Get him out of there! Paris: I'm on it... {he messes with a control panel and terminal} "Just let me confirm these reservations here..." {The Doc is left alone with Freya} "No, no, not a romantic subplot! Get her out of there! Please, nooooo..." [continue in this vein until the inevitable happens. Later] "At least they're of a compatible species and energy type. You don't get that often with Star Trek." {Torres and Paris get ready to mess with the photonic energy in the main room of engineering} "Let's play with the unpredictable energy right over here by the warp core." Janeway to Paris: There seems to be a mass of energy moving through the ship. "You ran `Chicago' and melted down another terminal, didn't you." {Janeway tells the Doc he's going into a dangerous situation. The Doc extols his abilities} "I can get myself killed just as good as any member of the crew." Doc about "Grendel": But I wish we could have... expanded the relation- ship. "Whoa, one relationship in a day is enough, Doc." Janeway: You must have had yourself quite an adventure. "I'll have to look over the logs very closely, wink wink..." In closing, let me say that if I ever hear the word "photonic" again, I will resort to deadly force. And I wonder if Duane Elms is getting royalties for next week's episode. -- / <|> <|> Petrea Mitchell "be afreud, [...] or at least you should be jung at heart." ---ikaros "Griddle me this: what are we frying to pun?" ---Steve "FarSide" Boyd *** Push the button... someone. :~( ***
