(Apologies to those on r.a.t.m.m who will see this twice-- if I don't cross-post it here, I can't direct followups here.) The following article contains spoilers for the Voyager episode "Projections". This is the one the holo-doc thinks he's turning into a live human... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I missed the intro, so we pick up the thread after the first com- mercial break, where the first thing that registers clearly in my mind is that Riker is directing... Doc: Transfer all bridge logs to Sickbay. "How 'bout a security code, buddy?" [The Doc is about to turn himself off when someone starts pounding on the door] "The last man on Earth was sitting in his room, reading a book..." B'elanna: [waving her hands] The Captain was hit by a phonic energy beam... "And I broke a *nail*!" B'elanna: We've also installed projectors in Engineering... "And all the important sets, you know..." B'elanna: I have to interface with the Sickbay systems. It'll take a lot of computing power and a lot of memory. "And a lot of technobabble. Don't forget the technobabble!" B'elanna: It'll take about 20 minutes. "I'm sure the Captain can deal with her life-threatening injury for 20 minutes." [The Doc materializes on the bridge and checks a male human] "Wow, it *did* hit her hard..." [Neelix pelts a Kazon with food] "It's _Home Alone 3_! Boy, Macaulay Culkin isn't aging gracefully..." "So... I don't suppose anyone wants to explain how the Kazon got on board?" [The Doc finds the tricorders believe he's human] "Aha! Space anomaly of the week!" "So... they'll name him Dr. Galatea?" [Barclay frets] "Oh, drat, I'm in the wrong one... I thought they said this was show 16..." "Todd, the sensitive lieutenant." Doc: You're saying I'm having a psychotic episode? Barclay: No. Yes! "Aah... I think the wrong person asked." Barclay: This simulation was designed to run for weeks. "--or longer if UPN renews it." Doc: I won't do it. "I will not eat green eggs and ham." Barclay: If there were some way I could convince you... "How about getting the negatives, Mr. Veil?" [The Doc grips his head in pain.] Barclay: The kinoplasmic radiation is oxidizing your brain cells! "The technobabble... get the technobabble out of my head!" "This is kinda like an episode of `Sapphire and Steel', except it's not very good." Doc, lying at Kes's feet: Kes... I'm glad to see you. "And may I say that the view up your skirt is fantastic." [Kes passionately implores the Doc to believe she's his wife] "Somebody's middle name is Sarafina..." Doc: And Kes is not my wife? [Tuvok and Kim glance at each other.] "But... I thought he was after *me*!" Kes: Let's keep this a secret between us. I don't think Neelix would be happy if he knew. "And so the seeds of a violent crime of passion are sowed." A thought for next week: Why is it that the only way a woman can become pregnant on Star Trek is by the unwanted intrusion of a new form of life? -- / <|> <|> Petrea Mitchell ** GO NINERS ** "I am big.
